Package theft is quickly becoming an epidemic in our country. Over 26 million households have been affected by package theft. UPS and Fed Ex have a delivery window of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is also the time frame in which the average person is at work, leaving your undelivered packages out in the open for someone to swipe them right off your front porch.

The two main reasons package theft has become an epidemic in our country are as follows:

1. No one is home. Stealing a package is so easy to get away with, it's like stealing candy from a baby. Typically no one is home when packages are delivered, so no one is looking our for Porch Pirates.

2. Online retail sales reached $394.9 billion in 2016. U.S. online retail sales grew faster in 2016 than they have in the past three years, and are expected to reach $459 billion by the end of 2017. As these numbers continue to climb, so will the number of stolen packages. More and more people are ordering higher- priced items online and having them delivered to their unsecured front door, this is not a great trend when you also look at the number of package thefts that are occurring.
